MERCED, CA (KMJ) – Criminal charges over accusations of sex crimes will not be filed in Merced against Monsignor Craig Harrison.
Police in Merced had been investigating for misdemeanor sexual battery.
The Merced County District Attorney’s Office said the filing of charges is prohibited due to the statute of limitations.
The allegations of sexual misconduct stemmed from 1987 and 1988.
Harrison was on paid administrative leave in April after a person from Firebaugh reported the allegations.
In July, Bakersfield PD announced it would not be filing charges against Harrison.
Monsignor Harrison filed a civil suit on August 6, 2019 against the group Roman Catholic Faithful Incorporated and its leader, Steven Brady, claiming both made false claims about him.
Harrison may still face charges in Fresno County.
