TULARE COUNTY, CA (KMJ) – Closing arguments begin Thursday in Tulare County in the capital murder trial of alleged cop killer, Erika Sandoval.
The five men and seven women of the jury will hear both sides wrap-up their cases.
The Deputy District Attorney, Dave Alavezos, from the Tulare County has tried to convince jurors that 26-year-old Erica Sandoval killed her husband, in a crime taking place on February 5th of 2015.
Alavezos told jurors Sandoval made her way into Detective Daniel Green’s house and then waited for her ex-husband to come home before she shot him.
The prosecution was painting a picture of a woman who was a victim of domestic violence but also jealous of a new female, a woman named “Brenda” who had come into Green’s life.
The couple was seen with together in a post on Facebook.
The defense claims she was abused woman who simply snapped out fear for the couple’s child.
If convicted Sandoval could face the death penalty but she would likely get a life sentence because of a moratorium on capital punishment in California.
