Porterville Man Sentenced For DUI Crash That Severed Man’s Legs

TULARE COUNTY, CA (KMJ) – A judge has sentenced a Porterville man to prison for a DUI crash that severely injured another man.

22 year-old Mohamed Mohamed was sentenced Thursday in Tulare County to nine years in prison for DUI.

On April 12, CHP officers responded at 12:40 in the morning to a crash in the area of West Teapot Dome Avenue.

Court documents show officers arrived to find a man lying on the ground with his legs severed from his body.

A car was on its wheels and another on its roof.

Investigators determined the victim, Geronimo Gonzalez, was standing in front of his house when the crash happened.

Court documents state that Mohamed’s car was going 150 mph just seconds before the crash.

A witness told officers the driver ran from the scene.

After running his license plate, police locate where Mohamed lived and took him into custody.

Mohamed has a prior alcohol-related reckless driving misdemeanor in Los Angeles County from Feb. 2019 and a pending DUI charge in Kern County from March 2019.

On July 30, Mohamed pleaded no contest to all charges filed against him by District Attorney Tim Ward: felony mayhem, driving under the influence, driving with a .08% BAC causing injury, hit and run resulting in serious injury, and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. DUI counts were enhanced with the special allegations that the crimes caused brain injury and paralysis.
