FRESNO (KMJ) – Just before 11:30 Tuesday morning, members of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office CATTCH Unit were conducting surveillance of a carjacking and robbery suspect.
It was during that operation detectives stopped a car near Inyo and West in Tulare. Detectives found that the suspect, Ricardo Aguirre, was sitting in the rear passenger seat of the car.
Police say Aguirre jumped out and ran east on Inyo.
Jack, a Tulare County K9 was sent to chase after him.
During the chase, an undercover TCSO detective in plain clothes crossed paths with Jack, who confused him with the suspect.
The dog latched onto the detective’s tactical vest. Unable to get the K9 deputy off of him, the undercover detective fired one round into Jack’s neck.
Jack was taken to a local vet, where he went into surgery and is expected survive his injuries.
The detective was not seriously hurt.
Aguirre was eventually caught and was arrested.
Sheriff Boudreaux has asked the Tulare Police department to investigate this incident.
