FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – Fresno State suspends the Sigma Chi fraternity.
The University says it stems from underage drinking, assaults and noise violations at a fraternity-sponsored event on May 5.
The University and its Department of Athletics have also taken action regarding student-athletes allegedly involved in the event.
The suspension runs through Feb. 3rd of 2020.
If the fraternity completes a risk-management program, and some other conditions required by the University – the chapter will regain recognition and most of the privileges that come with full recognition by Feb. 3, 2020.
It will not regain its right to serve alcohol to students of legal age at its functions until May 25, 2020.
