Three-Alarm Fire Torches Apartments Near Fresno State

(KMJ) – The investigation continues into the cause of a 3-alarm fire that gutted 14 apartments and torched eight vehicles at a complex near Fresno State.

The blaze at the Maplewood Apartment complex, on Backer near Shaw, broke out just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

it took more than 50 firefighters to get this blazed knocked down, and no injuries were reported.

And Fresno State issued this statement in the wake of this blaze:

A three-alarm fire occurred this evening directly across the street from campus, south of Shaw at Backer Avenue. At no time was the campus in any danger. Unfortunately, several students who lived in the Maplewood Apartment complex were displaced. Fresno State Housing was able to immediately accommodate these students by providing lodging on campus. University officials are continuing to monitor in the event they learn of additional students who need emergency housing due to the off-campus apartment fire.  

Fresno State students who have been displaced by the apartment fire are encouraged to call Fresno State Police dispatch at 559.278.8400 regarding emergency housing. The University is prepared to assist affected students with other campus services to help them through this difficult situation.

The University has also reached out to the American Red Cross to help coordinate assistance to all apartment residents affected by this devastating loss.
