FRESNO (KMJ) – Late Friday afternoon investigators released their findings, after a look at the DMV’s Motor Voter program, and there are a number of issues.
Auditors investigated California’s Motor Voter, the program where people are automatically registered to vote when they visit the Department of Motor Vehicles.
They found that the program is confusing, and customers don’t understand why they are being asked to register to vote, when they are there to do business involving driving and vehicles.
Fresno Assemblyman Jim Patterson says he’s disturbed by the results, and he’ll be pushing for accountability. “I am calling and I really believe that California voters have to join me in calling for the DMV Motor Voter to be suspended immediately,” Patterson said. “It cannot be trusted to accurately register voters.”
The DMV voter registration data also holds more than 90 thousand records which are not included in voter registration data.
