FRESNO (KMJ) – Democrats are now number-one in former California GOP stronghold.
Orange County, long known as a Republican stronghold, officially has more registered Democrats than Republicans.
Orange County’s registrar of voters reporting that there are 89 more Democrats than Republicans among 1.6 million registered voters.
The parties each have about 550,000 registered voters, and just over 440,000 with no party affiliation.
The county was home to President Nixon and has long been a conservative bastion.
Democrats say demographic change and opposition to President Trump helped them flip a cluster of congressional seats last year and draw new registered voters.
