.32 Caliber Handgun Discovered By Teacher in Student’s Backpack Says Fresno PD

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) -Fresno Police are investigating after they say a teacher found a gun in a student’s backpack.

Lt. Mark Hudson says the teacher discovered the weapon after she broke up a fight between a group of boys around 11:00 am Tuesday morning outside of Phillip V. Sanchez Charter School on Kings Canyon

When the teacher told the boys to leave one of them told her he’d left his backpack in classroom.

The teacher told him to stay outside and she would get it.

Lt. Hudson says when she lifted the backpack it was heavy, inside, she found an older .32 caliber handgun.

“I was told that the gun did seem kinda old but it was..did look functional and did have bullets in a magazine that was inside the gun,” said Lt. Hudson.

No word yet on what what charges the student could be facing.
