FRESNO (KMJ) – Governor Gavin Newsom, releasing his strike team report on how the Department of Motor Vehicles does business, and how to improve it.
The report makes recommendations on ways the department can improve going forward with an emphasis on transparency, worker training and performance, speed of service and overall consumer satisfaction.
But Assemblyman Jim Patterson says he’s disappointed.
“It just seems to me it’s sort of dressing up the old DMV in new clothes and thinking that’s good enough, and I just don’t think it’s good enough,” Patterson said.
The strike team’s report says progress has already been made in decreased in wait times, taking credit cards, and improved staff training, but Patterson says recommendations short of the possibilities advanced technology could make possible.
“We’ve really missed the opportunity here, to turn the DMV into what amounts to an Amazon-like operation,” Patterson said.
Tomorrow is DMV training day, Wednesday morning, all DMV field offices will be closed until 1-PM for employee training on Real ID procedures.
