FRESNO (KMJ) – Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims is speaking out on the Trump Administration’s current nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
“I just think it was blown out of proportion by the media,” Mims said.
Immigrant communities, on edge since President Trump’s administration announced plans for the operation, inflaming the political debate over immigration.
“Nationwide there were only 2,000 targeted individuals who had committed crimes here or who had ignored, after due process, and being notified, ignored showing up for court, so that is not a very large number, all things considered,” Mims said.
Administration officials said the coordinated action targeted people with final deportation orders in major cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Miami.
