FRESNO (KMJ) – As it turns out, President Trump and Governor Gavin Newsom can work together when the chips are down.
Gavin Newsom had a phone conversation with President Trump following the two major earthquakes that struck Ridgecrest over the weekend.
The governor saying that the conversation went well, that the president responded to the quakes with offers of aid, just like he did after the deadly and devastating wildfires that scorched the state last year.
“Whatever you need. Those are the words I’m familiar with,” Newsom said. “The President made those commitments for folks in Butte County, made those commitments for folks down in Woolsey, and he’s fulfilled that commitment. We don’t agree on everything, but one area where there’s no politics, where we’ve worked extraordinarily well together, is on emergency response recovery and this is consistent with that relationship and I want to thank the president.”
Since they took office, Newsom and the president have tangled over big issues like immigration and high speed rail, and their feud has spilled over into the courtroom with the state suing the Trump administration..
