FRESNO (KMJ) – The Fresno County Complete Count Committee says the Supreme Court made the right call when they decided against the Trump Administration’s attempt to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census form.
“We’re working together to make sure there’s an accurate count because we just understand the importance and significance of it,” Sam Molina said.
That’s Sam Molina, co-chair of the Complete Count Committee. The group agrees with the Census Bureau’s own experts, who predicted that millions of Hispanics and immigrants would go uncounted if the census had been allowed to ask people if they’re citizens. Molina says the Valley would have been affected in a big way.
“If we’re undercounted, we lose, not only representation, but federal funding towards our schools, public safety, public health, funding that goes toward veterans, and children with special needs. This was going to be very detrimental, we need to make sure that we’re accurately counted,” Molina said.
The committee is encouraging everyone to take part in the Census.
