FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Fresno judge decides a man will go to trial for the murder of a Calwa toddler.
Gage Hurtado was the boyfriend of the child’s mother, Nicole Lopez, but was not the father.
In September of 2017, Sheriff’s Deputies found 23-month-old Julius Lopez non-responsive in the home in Calwa with blows to the head and other injuries.
The autopsy showed he died of blunt force trauma.
The DA’s Office says Hurtado was the past person to be with him, and charged him with the crime.
His defense maintains that the child may have died before Hurtado arrived.
