2 Suspects Wanted in Connection with Drive-by Are Shot by Law in Delano

DELANO, CA (KMJ) – Two suspects are shot by law enforcement – one killed – both were wanted in connection with drive-by shooting in the South Valley.

Just after 4:00 Thursday afternoon, Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call that an 18-year-old was attacked outside his home on Hernandez Street in Richgrove.

The victim was taken to the hospital, he told deputies it was two men and a woman.

Hours later, at 10:55 p.m., Deputies received another 911 call from the same house in Richgrove, stating someone shot up the house and a bullet had gone through the window.

Around 12:30 a.m. Friday, deputies tracked the car to Delano.

The possible shooter was found at the Best Western Motel north of County Line Road.

Around 2:00 a.m. Friday morning, they knocked on the door to talk to the suspects. A man jumped out of the back window. That’s when shots were fired by a Delano Police Officer, hitting the suspect. He later died at the hospital.

Deputies inside the hotel continued knocking, asking the suspects to come out.  A woman swung the hotel door open while two deputies were inside the hallway. A shot was fired, hitting the woman in the hip. She was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux requested the Porterville Police Department to handle the officer-involved shooting investigation.

The deputy has been placed on Paid Administrative Leave.
