SANGER – (KMJ) – Fast rushing water, cold and hazardous, has forced Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims to close the Kings River to recreation until further notice.
“We are doing this in the interest of public safety,” Assistant Sheriff John Zanoni said.
Sheriff’s deputies say it’s just too dangerous to go into the water.
“There’s no more kayaking, boating, canoeing, swimming or floating,” Zanoni said.
Sheriff’s deputies are concerned that underwater roots and unseen obstacles could cause someone to drown.
“If you are caught in the river when it’s been closed, it should be noted that you are subject to a fine of $225 and this will be enforced,” Zanoni said.
Deputies say the river could reopen sometime this summer.
