MADERA, (KMJ) – Madera Police and the Madera Animal Shelter give a puppy to a girl whose dog was killed by her father.

Police say 27-year-old Ambrocio Hernandez was not welcome around the home near south D Street – where his daughter lives.

On Monday night, he admitted to Madera Police that’s when he murdered her puppy “Linda.”

Police say the girl’s puppy wanted to play, but her father got tired of the dog and beat it to death.

A pool of blood was found in the driveway of the home, and a bloody trail led to where the body of the female shepherd-lab mix was stuffed in a trash can.

He told police he beat the dog to death with a hammer because it irritated him.

“The animal, 6 months-old, was just being friendly, so that irritated him and caused him to be violent,” said Sergeant Mark Trukki. “He’s a drug user, does become violent when he’s on drugs so they asked him to stay away from the home.”

Sgt. Trukki said police found Hernandez a short time later by Madera and G Street, with blood on his clothes and the hammer, and arrested him for animal cruelty as well as possession of meth, and drug paraphernalia.

Wednesday morning, Madera Police partnered with the Madera County Animal Shelter to provide the family with a new puppy to bring some good news into a heartbreaking situation. Photo: Madera Police.
