FRESNO (KMJ) — The National Weather Service has issued a warning of intense weather over the coming days.
Storm systems are predicted to hit areas across Central California into the weekend and most of next week, with the fiercest rain expected Saturday. Forecasters warn of possible flooding following “an abundance of tropical moisture,” according to the hydrological outlook issued Friday morning (click here to read more).
Areas impacted by burns have been declared most at risk of flash flooding. The National Weather Service warned that heavy rain can create mud slides, debris flows, and washed out roads. Foothill and mountain communities are particularly threatened as the snow levels will remain relatively high at 8000 feet.
The precipitation will likely create hazardous driving conditions too. Advice from the CHP is to slow down, drive with headlights on, and be aware of possible hydroplaning over large patches of water.
The forecast said rain and snow will remain in the skies above Central California until Thursday at the earliest.
