FRESNO (KMJ) — A baby orangutan born earlier this month has begun his life on exhibit at Fresno Chaffee Zoo.
Zoo visitors were able to see him for the first time on Tuesday. He is the child of 29 year old mother Siabu, who came to Fresno in 2001 from Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, and father Busar, who came to Fresno in 1997 from Zoo Atlanta.
But staff are asking for locals’ help naming the new addition, and have whittled it down to three choices: Kadek, which means little brother in Balinese; Hantu, which means ghost in Malay; and Vikal, which means twilight, evening.
To make a selection, guests can purchase a wooden token for $1 at the Zoo admission booth and declare their choice by dropping the token in the designated slot at the orangutan exhibit ballot station.
The competition closes on November 30th. The winning name is scheduled to be announced on December 1st.
