FRESNO (KMJ) — The teenager alleged to have caused the hit and run death of a Clovis Unified vice principal has entered his plea.
Rogelio Alvarez Maravilla was already out on bail when he appeared in Fresno County Superior Court. He appeared in front of a judge amidst a crowd of family and friends of Gavin Gladding, who were present for his arraignment.
The 18 year old’s arrest was announced on September 21st, five days after the 43 year old educator was killed in the hit and run in Northeast Fresno. His memorial was attended by thousands (click here to read more).
Alvarez Maravilla pleaded not guilty to charges of hit and run resulting in permanent injury or death, vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and destroying or concealing evidence.
The defendant’s case was one of the first heard inside Department 32. He remains out on a $6,100 bail and his next hearing is scheduled for October 24th. If found guilty, the 18 year old faces up to four years behind bars.
