FPD: Kidnapping, Robbery Story was a Hoax

FRESNO, CA (KMJ)  A local business owner lied to investigators about being kidnapped, sexually assaulted and robbed.  32 year old Maria Gonzalez is facing charges of filing a false police report after spinning her tale to detectives, in order to avoid paying a $9,000 debt.

In a news conference Monday, Fresno PD Chief Jerry Dyer said Gonzalez called 911 claiming she had been tied up, assaulted and robbed near Cedar and Floradora in Caruthers by two masked African-American men.  It was a hoax said Dyer.

Dyer said his detectives had confronted Gonzalez with video evidence that showed she was alone in her car, and that hers were the only footprints at the scene.

After 2 hours of interrogation, Gonzalez finally admitted that she made up the story in order to skip out on paying the $9,000 to a pair of sub-contractors hired by her trucking company.
