FRESNO (KMJ) — A man is dead after an off-duty police officer shot a man outside Orosi, which deputies said started with road rage against other motorists.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Office first received reports of someone driving erratically near Anchor and Floral Avenues outside Dinuba, shortly before 8pm Thursday. Witnesses then reported shots fired, and deputies established that an off-duty Orange Cove Police officer had fired rounds at the suspect, 39 year old Ricardo Cisneros Piceno, of Reedley.
“What we learned is that this off-duty police officer was traveling down the road when suddenly got into a confrontation with another motorist,” explained Fresno County Sheriff’s Office’s Tony Botti.
“It escalated to the point where this officer got out of his vehicle, and began firing shots at the other vehicle that he had gotten into this disagreement with.
“That person was transported to the hospital, but he later passed away.”
Investigators established that the off-duty officer had noticed the suspect driving erratically near Monson and Floral Avenues outside Orosi, and shot him following an argument. Detectives are still to schedule a time to meet and interview the unidentified Orange Cove Police officer.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Valley Crime Stoppers on 888-498-STOP.
