FRESNO (KMJ) — Triple-digit temperatures are in Tuesday’s forecast for the Central Valley, marking their first appearance for 2018. The heat comes as competition between systems is set to bring significant highs and lows ahead.
“The high pressure ridge is building in over us, and we’ve got a pretty strong cold front that’s going to be moving through the next couple of days,” explained National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Barlow.
“We’re seeing a lot of warm air out ahead of this cold front. So when this cold front comes through looks like it’s going to be starting to have impact by tomorrow [Wednesday], where the highs are only going to be around 90.”
The normal temperature for this time of year is 88°F. Significant cooling is expected by Thursday, with highs around 79°F.
“Summer is trying to come in, and winter is trying to hold on, so we have these storm systems that are still fairly active for this time of year,” added Barlow.
“So this is actually a very normal occurrence to see a 15° to 20° swing within just a few days.”
