FRESNO (KMJ) — An illegal marijuana dispensary in Central Fresno has been shut down, but among the items seized by Fresno Police are edibles closely resembling candy and cookies.
“Candy that might fall in the hands of our children,” said Police Chief Jerry Dyer. “These candies would be very very difficult for a child to determine whether or not they have THC in them or if these are regular candies that you would purchase in a store.
“There is absolutely no way that a child would know this.”
The evidence comes after a two-month investigation by Fresno PD into an illegal marijuana dispensary. A search warrant served on 3770 N. First Street on Thursday ended with six arrests for possession of marijuana for sale.
The suspects are 26 year old Victor Rivera, 26 year old Gabriel Noonkester, 31 year old Ryan Allen, 40 year old Justin Brown, 31 year old Rogelio Gonzalez, and 20 year old Sara Garcia-Bravo. All are from Fresno.
“Some people may question in our community why we are using our resources to target dispensaries, to investigate these dispensaries,” added Chief Dyer.
“It’s a fair question. After all in California the law has been passed by the majority of its citizens that say that marijuana sales would be legal. But in the City of Fresno it’s illegal.
“But more important than that is the serious injury and potential death that could occur to our children as a result of the way these edibles are packaged.”
