FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno PD is asking locals to donate to their favorite charity, instead of giving to people in the median. The warning comes as part of the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Operation.
In an update detailing officers’ weekend operations, the department said giving to those next to the road is very dangerous for both the pedestrians and drivers.
“It really could all be prevented by people using cross walks and well lit areas, and not assume that the motorist can see them,” explained Lieutenant David Ramsey.
Efforts to improve safety on the City’s roads prompted officers to contact 76 people on Sunday. 42 of them were issued warnings and told about the traffic laws concerning pedestrians and bicycles. A total of 34 vehicle citations were issued as well.
