Central Unified Board Accused Of Collusion In Superintendent’s Removal

Former Central Unified Superintendent Mark Sutton

FRESNO (KMJ) — Allegations of collusion within the Central Unified School Board are being directed towards trustees by a newly formed political action committee.

The Central United PAC came together following the removal of Superintendent Mark Sutton earlier this month. Members are trying to reinstate him in his former role.

“I think they have their own political agenda,” says Central United Treasurer Aaren Rodrigues.

“They want to replace him with somebody that they can control and who they feel is a minority.”

Central United’s plan is to recall specific members of the Central Unified Board of Trustees in order to swing the balance of favor back towards Mark Sutton. Recall papers for two Board members were served last week.

“At this time Phillip Cervantes and Richard Solis. But those are the only two,” added Rodrigues. “We are not looking to recall Terry Cox, and the other remaining members are up for reelection in November and we’d like to replace them as well.”

In a statement to KMJ News, Board President Cesar Granda said the accusations are being taken seriously and “both time and the information we’re providing will prove these charges to be false.”
