SELMA (KMJ) — A blaze inside a double-wide mobile home outside Selma is now under investigation, after flames tore through it early Thursday morning.
Crews with Fresno County Fire was called to the scene near Floral and Chestnut around 6.30am.
“The fire was pretty intense,” explained Battalion Chief Jeremiah Wittwer.
“It was already making its way down the hallway. They were able to get in and initiate a fire attack pretty quick. Most of the structure is damaged on the interior. It’s going to be a complete loss.”

The estimated cost of the damage is around $100,000. Firefighters confirmed the home was fitted with smoke detectors, which allowed two people inside to get out to safety and avoid serious injury. They then drove themselves to the hospital.
“Having those smoke detectors in play – this could have been a different scenario. Sleeping in the early morning they were able to be alerted and get out of the house. Obviously they were able to make it to the hospital. Who knows if they didn’t have a smoke detector alert them?”
