FRESNO (KMJ) — Two bands of wet weather are currently forecast for the Central Valley, but meteorologists say the coming week could bring even more.
The first bout of precipitation is due over the weekend, with as much as half and inch of rain in the Fresno area.
“Right now the timing has that storm hitting Central California probably about Saturday during the day,” explained the National Weather Service’s Carlos Molina.
“With the bulk of the precipitation coming in during the afternoon and evening hours.”
This weather front is warmer than other winter storms this year. That means the snow levels will be higher than usual.
“Somewhere around 7,000 feet and above, so anything below that will come in the form of rain. For the areas where we will see snow, we could see between six inches to almost a foot at the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada,” added Molina.
More rain and snow is expected Monday and Tuesday of next week, when a storm arriving from the north is due to brush up against Merced, Mariposa, and Madera counties.
Then the days following could bring even more.
“We’re getting into an unsettled weather pattern. Looks like we have a storm coming in of course Saturday and Tuesday, and looks like it will continue to remain unsettled even as we go into next weekend.
“It’s going to be off and on precipitation almost all week long.”
