Million Dollar Improvement Package Approved For Chukchansi Park

FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno City Council has given the green light to allow $1.2 million of improvements to Downtown’s Chukchansi Park.

The collective decision was made Thursday morning.

The money will be coming from the stadium’s capital reserve fund and is destined for non-structural work.

“So the first step is to extend the safety netting at Chukchansi Park to the end of each dugout,” explained the Fresno Grizzlies’ Paul Braverman.

“That is a capital improvement that is going to be on a list of several capital improvements to Chukchansi Park. The most notable are the new hospitality and gathering place.

That new structure is going to be placed down the left field line. Construction is scheduled to start this season.

“The safety netting extension is really the new status-quo in professional baseball. All 30 Major League teams for this season are going to have netting that goes to the end of each dugout and a lot of Minor League teams are now following suit.”

It was last month when a new owner was brought in for the Fresno Grizzlies, but Braverman added that it’s chance that these improvements are taking place now.

“Mainly a coincidence of timing.”
