SELMA (KMJ) — Schools all over the country have taken steps to protect themselves after a vague threat targeting a campus referred to as “SHS.”
The Facebook post came to the attention of law enforcement Thursday morning, and prompted school districts in Ohio, Illinois, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, and California to take action.
Selma High School is one of the sites where officials took extra steps to secure students. In an email to parents, Assistant Principal Satenig Sanikian wrote that, even through the threat originated from Ohio, Selma Police will be visible on campus.
“The posts were re-posted several places here locally by some of the residents here and they were brought to our attention,” explained Police Chief Greg Garner.
“Our staff and their staff got together and determined that there was no credible threat directed towards Selma High School, although we did choose to increase our police presence around the school.”
The post itself has since been dismissed as not credible.
“We take every one of them seriously, so we would always do our due diligence to determine if there is a concern,” added Chief Garner.
Extra police officers were also posted outside Fresno’s Sunnyside High School in response to the Facebook post.
