FRESNO (KMJ) — One person is dead, and five are in the hospital, after three shootings over the course of Thursday evening and early Friday morning.
Investigators have established that the incidents are due to an ongoing feud between two gangs. both based in West Fresno.
The first took place close to Jensen and Elm at 4.30pm. One victim was shot in the face.
“The victim is identified as Kejuan Perry and he is 16 years of age,” said Chief Jerry Dyer in a news conference Friday.
“Perry was driven to the hospital where he has been treated and he is in a stable condition.”
The second incident was close to Fruit and California, on Valencia Avenue, at around 7.30pm.
“We did locate two gunshot victims. One of those was 24 year old Anthony Perry. He was shot in the chest. The second victim was Don Quil Chapman, 37 years of age, and he was shot in the leg.
“Both Chapman and Perry were transported to CRMC. Unfortunately Anthony Perry did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
“Chapman is being treated…and will make a full recovery.”
The third incident called officers to the area of Blackstone and Shaw at around 2am.
“There was a black Mercedes on scene. The black Mercedes is believed to be the same vehicle that was involved in the shooting earlier on Valencia.
“The second call that we received was two females who had received gunshot wounds Showed up at the Shell station at Blackstone and Dakota.”
Chief Dyer said they were taken to the hospital and their injuries are not considered life threatening.
Investigators established that 30 year old Michael Evans was a passenger in that Mercedes, which was also involved in a rolling gun battle down Blackstone Avenue.
“Evans was shot in the head. He was transported to CRMC. He is in critical condition and may not survive that injury.”

Fresno PD is now working with community leaders to try and prevent further retaliation. No arrests have been made in connection with the three shootings.
“The intelligence information that we have gathered up to this point demonstrates that there is a very high probability of retaliatory type shootings to occur as a result of what occurred,” warned Chief Dyer.
