FRESNO (KMJ) — Following the passing of a resolution ending the federal government shutdown, Fresno area Congressman Jim Costa revealed that there is growing anger on Capitol Hill about the stop-gap solutions.
“Many of us are getting sick and tired of these continuing resolutions,” said Costa inside his Downtown Fresno office Tuesday.
The Democratic Representative’s comments come after a compromise on Monday saw another spending bill passed, with an expiration date of February 8th. But he downplayed the likelihood of another deadlock coming up then.
“I don’t think there’ll be a shutdown. I think there’ll be another agreement on a spending package and how long that will last for.
“In February or March we end up with the debt ceiling so that could be thrown together in one big package, because increasing the debt ceiling is always politically concerning for many members.
“We’ve got a number of deadlines. We’re got the February 8th deadline, we’ve got the March 5th deadline with the DACAs.”
But Congressman Costa reveals the fate of Dreamers is just one part of a wider compromise between the Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill.
“There’s an agreement on how much we’ve been spending on defense…but there are also other efforts that include Homeland Security, includes Veterans Administration, that aren’t part of the defense budget but there all necessary parts of spending.
“We think there ought to be parity.”
