FRESNO (KMJ) — A confidential tip line, for students at Fresno’s Bullard High School to report issues to campus officials, is now in operation.
The phone number was switched on Tuesday, and is able to receive both calls and texts. Notifications of any messages sent or called in are automatically sent to school administrators. The number is (559) 825-7418.
“To report maybe a possible fight, maybe vandalism, maybe some damage to the school, maybe some bullying or harassment, or even if you suspect someone has drugs on them,” explained Principal Carlos Castillo.
It comes after a girl on campus says she was hit with a juice box and called names because of her sexuality. Principal Castillo said the tip line was not set up for that specific incident, but for anything that happens on campus.
“It’s for different things that our students want to report or need to report and sometimes are just afraid to report because they’re afraid.”
The police investigation into the alleged hate crime is ongoing, prompting the surrounding community to put up money to encourage students to share information. Former Fresno County Supervisor Henry Perea started the effort with a $750 reward, which has now grown to $1000.
“So we’ve communicated that to our students and families, in order to be able to get more witnesses,” added Principal Castillo.
It’s the third high school tip line set up within Fresno Unified School District, following similar efforts at Hoover High School and Fresno High School.
