FRESNO (KMJ) — Online retailer Amazon says it has received 238 proposals from areas across North America eager secure the company’s new HQ2.
Interested cities and regions, whose locations spread from as far north as Alaska and British Columbia to areas of Central Mexico, all want to be home to the promised $5 billion investment and up-to 50,000 high paying jobs the deal would bring.
The City of Fresno is among the locations putting its name forward. Mayor Lee Brand detailed his city’s proposal is a 100 year agreement which would put 85% of every tax dollar into what’s would be called the “Amazon Community Fund” (click here to read more).
“This fund will be jointly controlled by city officials and Amazon executives to build the infrastructure to sustain the HQ2 project for the community for next century,” said Mayor Brand.
“This approach makes HQ2 a win for both Amazon and the City of Fresno for the next 100 years.”
Fresno is up against some stiff competition as other locations have chosen their own methods to woo the company.
Stonecrest GA says it will provide acres of land to create the “City of Amazon” if it wins, giant Amazon boxes were placed around in Birmingham AL to create social media buzz, and officials in Tucson AZ sent a 21 foot tall cactus to try to sweeten their deal.
It’s now up to Amazon to respond (click here to read more).
