CLOVIS (KMJ) — The cause of a fire outside Clovis Tuesday morning is now being investigated by Fresno County Fire.

The blaze sent a torrent of black and gray smoke up into the air. Crews were told it was a quarter-acre grass fire with vehicles involved.

“First crews arrived, had a small grass fire working its way into a eucalyptus orchard and approximately five to seven vehicles that were fully involved with fire,” explains Captain Jeremiah Wittwer.

He says crew members quickly set about containing the blaze and extinguishing any remaining flames. Nearby witnesses reported popping coming from the fire.

“It’s a lot of the vehicles. You know tires, the airbags in the vehicle. You’ll get a lot of the popping and banging noises like that.”

It’s unknown if the vehicles whether or not the vehicles were abandoned. There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
