Woman Arrested After Waving “Toy Gun” Near A Visalia School

VISALIA (KMJ) — A woman has been arrested after Visalia Police say she was waving a toy gun in a city park, prompting a school lockdown.

Officers responded to Fairview Park after a report of someone there with a firearm; that call came in around 11am.

“Due to the location of the park and close proximity to a nearby school, the officers chose to put the school on lockdown as a precaution,” explains Sergeant Damon Maurice.

“Officers arrived on scene and contacted what turned out to be a female that was waving [what was] described as a plastic toy gun, and not a real gun. That lady was detained.”

The 38 year old suspect, identified as Erica Weaver, had four warrants out for her arrest and is now in police custody.

“The fake toy gun has been taken from her and the school is no longer on lockdown,” adds Sergeant Maurice.

“So there are no injuries, but out of an abundance of caution, folks reported the incident to us.”

It is currently unknown what Erica Weaver’s motive was.
