VISALIA (KMJ) — A bacon eating contest is one part of a new festival taking place in Visalia this weekend.
Organizers hope “Boots, Brews, & Bacon” will become an annual event for the city.
“In addition to the beer tasting and bacon tasting, provided by local breweries and restaurants, we are having a bacon eating contest,” reveals the site’s general manager Shelley Ellis.
“Ten competitors will participate for the prize: to be awarded and and crowned the fist ‘Boots, Brews, & Bacon’ bacon eating contest champion.”
Competitors can sign up ahead of time calling (559) 713-4000, or put their name down on the day itself.
“We want to share the love of bacon. It’s been quite fun and the restaurants are very excited to participate.
“They’ll be sampling some of their best bacon bites, and going after a prize of their own for best bacon bites…so we’re just going to spread the love of bacon by eating a lot of it.”
The festival will also include craft brew tasting and live music.
“We’ll have over 70 different brands of beer to sample…and we’ll have a couple of live bands: Brandon Pasion and Leaving Austin,” adds Ellis.
Tickets are still available, and can be purchased at the Visalia Convention Center box office (phone (559) 713-4040) or online (click here).
