Clock Ticking For Animals At CCSPCA After Busy 4th Of July Holiday

FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – More pets become lost during the July 4th holiday than any other time of the year, and many have ended up at the Central California SPCA on Hughes.

Their average for the 4th is 200 animals, so far 90 pets have come in, and 25 to 30 animals came in dead on arrival,.

“Our phone lines are being inundated by people calling saying; “i lost my pet during the 4th, it looks like this” unfortunately we can’t help people out that way.” – Walter Salvari, Central California SPCA Spokesperson.

CCSPCA Spokesperson Walter Salvari says the only way to see if your pet is there is to go in person… and the clock is ticking.

“They only will be here at the shelter for about 7 days and they could be euthanized and that’s the final outcome really here. It’s hard to place homes for all the animals, so a lot of our animals don’t make it out of the stray building, and that’s what our community really needs to know.” -Walter Salvari, Central California SPCA Spokesperson.

In an effort to reunite pets with owners – they are reducing reclaim fees for 5 days after the 4th of July.

An impounded stray dog may be reclaimed for one of the following fees:

• $12 city license fee for an altered dog with all other fees waived, or

• $50 city license fee on an unaltered dog with all other fees waived

• No fee if dog is from the county

Be sure to bring some form of pet identification to establish ownership such as photos, veterinary records, or adoption papers, as well as your own personal identification in the form of a driver’s license, identification card, passport, or military ID.

Walter Salvari, the Central California SPCA Spokesperson says have your animal micro-chipped so that it can be reunited faster.
