FRESNO (KMJ) — A Bulldog gang member is dead after a shootout with police Wednesday morning. The 21 year old suspect was killed during an incident in Central Fresno.
The call, which came in at around 3.30am, detailed multiple shots fired in the area of Fruit and Dakota.
“Officers arrived immediately and set up at the front of that residence,” details Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer. “They could hear gunshots being fired from the rear…a perimeter was established around the residence.
“Officers made entry into the residence, escorted the individuals who lived there outside, and as officers were on scene dozens of rounds were fired.”
Fresno PD estimates as many as 100 rounds were part of that exchange, with the suspect using an SKS rifle to fire at the responding officers.
“Two officers fired their weapons, one handgun and one rife, at the suspect. He was shot multiple times and is deceased at that location,” confirms Chief Dyer.
“Next to the suspect…was the SKS rifle as well as a handgun. He was firing those weapons as well as perhaps a shotgun and another handgun from a detached shed in the backyard of that residence.
“There are dozens and dozens of rounds that had been fired by him. There’s holes in the shed, it appears that he was inside the shed firing rounds out towards the direction of the officer and towards the west side of that house.
Chief Dyer says a neighbor told investigators that the suspect told him earlier that night that βIt was time to end it all.β
A dog was shot in the backyard, but no other injuries were reported. The officers, who were not injured, are now on paid administrative leave as the investigation proceeds.
Salvadro Lopez was offically named as the suspect later that day (click here to read more).
