FRESNO (KMJ) — Both northbound and southbound traffic on Highway 99 through Fresno will be re-routed Tuesday night, to allow the crews to demolish three bridge columns in the center divide.
The work will be focused on the area where Clinton Avenue crosses Highway 99, which is already the subject of much construction after Caltrans closed off the overpass for approximately six months.
“So as part of the State Route 99 realignment project, we’re moving State Route 99 from Clinton to Ashlan 100 feet to the west in order to make space for the High Speed Rail to come in and install their tracks in that area,” explains Caltrans’ Cory Burkarth.
“So in order to do that, we have to move the entire freeway 100 feet to the west to make room for that.”
The first closure is scheduled to take place Tuesday April 18th, from 11pm until 5am the following morning. The second closure is scheduled to continue on Wednesday April 19th, from 11pm until 5am the following morning.
Drivers going northbound will be asked to exit Highway 99 using the Clinton Avenue off-ramp, cross over Clinton Avenue, and continue back onto Highway 99 using the on-ramp.
Those going southbound will be asked to exit at the Shields Avenue off-ramp, travel south down Marks Avenue, then onto Clinton Avenue and using the Vassar on-ramp back onto Highway 99.
