FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno State President Joseph Castro writes on Twitter that ICE’s presence on campus Wednesday is for a scheduled career and internship expo only.
The “Recruit Down the 99 and Beyond” event, taking place inside the Save Mart Center, is designed to match up students with opportunities to achieve their future career goals.
Casto states that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is not there to enforce immigration policy. But those responding to the initial tweet chastise the university for inviting them to the gathering in the first place.
It comes amidst increasing concern from undocumented students, that federal agents may start focusing their efforts on campuses. A letter from CSU Chancellor Timothy White dated February 22nd, advised students to contact the University Police Department if they’re approached by state or local officials asking about immigration status.
