FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A Parlier cat shelter is gambling on poker to raise money for their kitties.
“Poker for Paws” is the Cathouse on the Kings’ fundraising event taking place Saturday February 18th.
Lynnea Lattanzio (above photo) founded the shelter to save cats, and now with 900, including 16 recently left in plastic bins in their parking lot, there are many mouths to feed.
Spokesperson Beth Caffrey says this their first year to hold “Poker for Paws.”
“We’ve never done this before so we are new at it. It’s our 25th Anniversary of the Cathouse on the Kings and it’s also Lynnea’s birthday so we are trying to put an extra fundraiser in before the start of spring and the flood of kittens.” – Spokesperson Beth Caffrey.
They need to raise money to pay for all the animals and the spay and neutering services that the Cathouse provides – and if you’ve never played poker Caffrey says it’s not a problem.
“It starts at 7:15 p.m., it’s a 40 dollar buy-in where you receive $3000 in chips. We do welcome people who haven’t played poker, you can go ahead of the tournament itself and learn how to play.” – Spokesperson Beth Caffrey.
They are gambling on poker to bring in big dollars with help from Club One Casino.
“We’re really grateful to Club One Casino – they are matching dollar per dollar donations to us.” – Spokesperson Beth Caffrey.
