HSR Contractors Break Fresno Gas Line – Second Time In Ten Weeks

FRESNO (KMJ) — Contractors working on the state’s bullet-train system ruptured a gas line in Fresno Monday morning, the second time in less than ten weeks.

The breach took place close to where Dakota Avenue meets Highway 99, less than a mile away from the previous incident on Ashlan Avenue and Highway 99.

“Two units were assigned to the incident itself, there’s eight firefighters on scene,” explains Fresno Fire’s Hector Vasquez. “Upon arrival they recognized there was a four inch gas main that was damaged.

“The main was damaged by contractors working on the high-speed rail project. The leak finally got contained three hours later by PG&E workers.”

One business was evacuated while work to repair the line was underway.

“It’s happened a couple of times,” adds Vasquez. “I don’t know if it’s due to the fact that the lines were improperly marked, we don’t have that information at this time.”
