Chief Dyer Says Trump “Is A Big Fan Of Law Enforcement”

FRESNO (KMJ) — The Chief of Fresno Police says there’s an “incredible” level of support for law enforcement within the new White House administration.

Chief Jerry Dyer took part in the meeting of Major County Sheriffs and Major Cities Chiefs in Washington D.C., which also included an address from President Donald Trump.

“What I gathered from everyone who spoke, from the President on down, is that there’s an incredible level of support of law enforcement – and the President could not have made that any more clear.

“That he is a big fan of law enforcement and respects what law enforcement has to do, especially in this environment today, and that is a very good feeling because quite frankly we haven’t felt that coming out of the White House for many years – at least the last few years.”

Dyer adds that having such strong backing from the federal government, ultimately results in safer cities.

“We are starting to see the pendulum swing from the far left, back towards the center, and that is going to be a good thing for law enforcement.”

The law enforcement leaders were also given an opportunity to talk to FBI Director James Comey, and Secretary of Homeland Security General John Kelly, as well as other members of Congress.

But it all comes amidst local concern about White House policies targeting illegal immigration. It was a week ago when Chief Dyer, along with other local officials, tried to calm those fears with an announcement inside Fresno City Hall (click here to read more).

“It’s important that local officials do come to Washington, and sit down and provide information to those individuals that are making decisions that impact all of us as Americans. The worst thing we can do is stay in Fresno and not educate our federal leaders.

“Because if we choose to do that, then they’re going to make decisions in Washington without having the influence of local leaders.”
