CLOVIS (KMJ) — Firefighters in Clovis are asking local businesses to assist in the final part of their efforts for young burn survivors.
Their drive began when crew members in the Central Valley, and California-wide, starting growing out their mustaches during the month of November to raise money in what’s called ‘Stache for Cash’. That part of the fundraising generated around $5,000 in Clovis, and around $16,000 across the state, this year alone.
It’s going to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation’s ‘Champ Camp’, for those who have suffered burn injuries.
“They get an opportunity to go be around more than a hundred of their peers”, explains Clovis Fire Engineer Nolan Stempson. “That have also suffered from burn incidents. Some severe some minor.
“It gives them an opportunity to be around kids that aren’t looking at them funny and aren’t staring at them”.
The ‘Stache for Cash’ is followed by a big finale dinner and auction.
“Which is our big fundraiser. That’s where we get the big donations because we get a lot of local businesses that donate”.
They’re still asking for local businesses to donate items, for the event taking place on December 10th. Everything raised will go to support the ‘Champ Camp’.
“They could contact us personally, myself or Chris Bridger”, continues Stempson. “We have a Facebook for Clovis Firefighters, that’s where we’re doing a lot of the stuff on social media…they could message us on there”.
