FRESNO (KMJ) — Tuesday is the day to give back, on a day of celebrating global philanthropy.
It’s powered by social media, focused on collaboration, and follows some of the biggest shopping days of the year. November 29th’s ‘Giving Tuesday’ is all about redirecting the seasonal flow of money towards good causes.
“So this is a really busy time of year for our helpline, our 211 system”, explains President and CEO of United Way of Fresno and Madera Counties Lindsay Callahan. “It’s our 24/7, 365 days a year helpline where anybody in the community can call if they have a question or a need”.
That service offers help in areas such as legal services, how to solve utility problems, or even where to find emergency shelter.
“You’re not alone, this community wants to take care of you”.
This ‘Giving Tuesday’ is also being marked by the CCSPCA, asking the public to ‘#GiveUsFive’ encouraging everyone to give them $5 to support their efforts. That money can be used to feed a dog for ten days or a cat for 28 days.
“We’re trying to adopt out 800 animals”, reveals the CCSPCA’s Walter Salvari. “So really any money that we receive in this campaign would greatly help”.
