FRESNO (KMJ) — Fresno State students are being warned to be aware of their surroundings following an armed car-jacking on campus.

A professor told Fresno State PD she was approached Thursday night in the P-1 parking lot by two armed men wearing ski-marks. They demanded her keys, and after she handed them over, they drove her car away.

“It’s a crime of opportunity that happened last night”, says Lieutenant Jim Watson. “What students need to do is they just need to be aware of their surroundings, they need to park in well-lit areas.

“If you see something that doesn’t look right…then don’t park there. Go someplace else. If something doesn’t look right, don’t put yourself in jeopardy”.

He adds that patrols are in place in the area, but crime does spike up right before the holiday season.

“There’s a lot of other crimes, vehicle break-ins off campus, around campus. As far as an actual car jacking this is the first one in quite a while that’s occurred on campus”.
