FRESNO, Calif. (KMJ) — The vast majority of students heading into community colleges in the Golden State are not prepared, and are thus placed in remedial courses.
According to the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, most of the students who enroll in those classes never manage to earn a degree or certificate, nor do they transfer to a 4-year college.
The institute says math is where the greatest assistance is needed.
Developmental courses take a significant amount of time, and don’t count toward a degree; researchers says that leads to delays for students.
