FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – A fundraiser is taking place with money going to the Rod Lucas Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund.
Sergeant Rod Lucas died October 31st in an accidental shooting – leaving behind his wife Jamie and their four children.
Fresno Sheriff’s Spokesperson Tony Botti says a group called Police and Fire: The Fallen Heroes out of the Bay area contacted them saying that they had heard of Sgt. Lucas’ passing and they wanted to do something.
“The family approved their idea they just didn’t want the money going directly to them, though. – Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff’s Spokesperson.
So 35% of the day’s proceeds will go to Police and Fire: The Fallen Heroes, they in turn will donate 100% of all money raised, to the Rod Lucas Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund.
“Rod was a very passionate person, very religious, he was committed to his profession, ah, to kids – he mentored them, he coached them, so to have something like this put in his name where it’s going to further their education – it’s just huge and I know Rod would appreciate this so much knowing that it’s going to help kids further their education.” – Tony Botti, Fresno County Sheriff’s Spokesperson.
The fundraiser takes place Tuesday, November 15th, 2016, from 11:00am through 10:00pm
at Famous Dave’s Barbecue, 7603 N. Blackstone Avenue, Fresno.
