FRESNO, CA ( KMJ) – The Fresno Police Department is calling Operation Slide Lock one of their largest multi-agency operations.
28 people were arrested on federal and state charges for drug trafficking and dealing in illegal firearms.
Operation Slide Lock was the culmination of a year-long investigation ending in what Fresno police called the fourth and the largest take down of a gang operation.
From ATF to the FBI, the agencies worked together to target the Strother Boys gang of South East Fresno, who are also known for promoting prostitution among their illegal dealings.
It all started with a gun seized that was stolen back in December of 2014 at a Fresno gun store.
Local Fresno cobbler, 85-year-old George Sheklian, died when he was mowed down during by the robbers, who were stealing the store’s guns. Sheklian was taking coffee to the owner of the business next to his, at the same time, that robbers were inside.
Now, 36 people have been arrested during the entire course of the year-long investigation, taking more illegal guns and meth off the streets.
